Welcome to southern Utah and one of its many mesmerizing attractions, Factory Butte, so creatively named by early settlers who thought its outline resembled a huge factory building. The intense color differences of the terrain highlighted in this image showcase the area's geographic diversity and its only pronounced rock formation, which shrinks the surrounding landscape into insignificance. Dark coal, yellow clay, pale sandstone, and red-toned shale make up this prominent peak and the badlands attempting to envelop it.
