Phantom Flowers
Phantom Flowers
Phantom Flowers is an ongoing series about funerary flowers that were cast in blocks and placed on graves during a certain period in the 20th century. These blocks are a remembrance for the deceased and were cast in resin to protect the flowers inside from the influence of time. As they have been continually exposed to the elements like frost, sunlight and rain for more than 20 years, their appearance has nonetheless changed considerably just like the memories of the people they were meant for. On the one hand this series is a quest for beauty in the light of decay and dealing with loss. On the other hand it is an archival project recording a tradition and craft of flower preservation. Phantom Flowers are slowly dissappearing as cultural opinions about graveyards are changing.
