A passport was the first thing that came into mind when National Identity was given to me as a brief.
My project became about exploring the idea of the passport’s photo and its connection to the identity of its owner.
The passport is used as a document to prove ones national identity; but does the passport reveal the truthfulness in the identity of its owner?
I started questioning the identity of people who had been affected when their country had dissolved, which is what “You were never here! Is about.
My aim was to challenge the viewer to consider identifying with somebody who no longer has a national identity and to reflect on his or her own individualism.
