Architecture reality and unreality
Author
My parents thought I would grow up to be an architect. They were not far off.
I grew up near Chicago. As a kid, when we would drive to the city, my face was stuck against the car window, gazing upward at all the amazing architecture. It calmed me to notice details others did not. It felt like I was in on some sort of secret.
I started my career as a U.S. Army photojournalist during the transition from film to digital. While deployed to Bosnia and Croatia, I felt drawn to all the buildings damaged during the long civil war. In 1995 and 1996, I became one of the early warchitecture photographers.
All these years later I am still looking up. As an architecture photographer, I want my viewers to feel as if I have shared a secret with them.
I am a member of American Photographic Artists and the National Press Photographers Association. My work has been published by The American Institute of Architects, Archinect, Hoodline, Le Monde, New York Magazine, and more.
