Hello There
Hello There
This young male walrus was strewn across a an ice floe in the Barents Sea off the coast of the Sor-Spitsbergen National Park in Svalbard. He was completely isolated and surrounded by nothing but two huge icebergs. As part of a group trip, we came across this walrus in a zodiac as part of the daily excursions. Having approached quietly and slowly as not to frighten him, we enjoyed watching him wiggle about on the ice for some time. He must've heard the shutters clicking and become interested in his new neighbours and propped himself up to look directly at us. The way he looked at us and his pose reminded me as if he'd been expecting us. Along with the iceberg, it provided the perfect shot of him in his arctic environment.
