The Sea Swimmers

I joined a group of sea swimmers off the Suffolk coast in 2020, setting out to capture the moments they made together as they ventured into the cold, choppy swell of the North Sea.

I produced a series that included portraits, context and detail shots, my favourite of which is of Charlotte, pictured here.

I feel this shot is very representative of my work - honest, emotive and pulling-in a natural environment. The group over her shoulder, the rocks suggesting the ruggedness of the day. I believe it’s one of my strongest portraits, but I do feel I’m guilty of missing a message here. I’ve presented a subject, but perhaps I haven’t shot with a message in mind.
