The Covid Kids in the Aluminium Factory
The Covid Kids in the Aluminium Factory
When the Corona pandemic also started to hit Bangladesh, the government was very swift to impose a lockdown in March as well as close all the schools. Till today the schools in most of the impoverished area's of the capital are still closed, probably till summer 2021.
A lot of children with a weak socio economic background, have no alternative than to go to work. Some of them find work in the aluminium factories in the capital Dhaka. Aluminium sheets are bent to make pots and pans for the local market. In the process of bending and polishing the metal sheets, a lot of aluminium fly dust is released and covers the workers from top to toe in a grey powder dust.
The workers, because of their metal grey appearance after a day of work, are locally called "The Robot Men"
