Birkat Al-Mouz - The Banana Pool of Oman
This is Birkat Al Mouz, a beautiful oasis in Oman where palm trees are present in every alley. This iconic village – whose name literally means “a pool of bananas” – lies at the foot of the Jebel Akhdar mountains and is home to many beautiful sights. It is an exciting starting point to begin an adventurous 4WD drive up to the Saiq Plateau on Jebel Akhdar. It has the most famous ruins in the Sultanate of Oman. Exploring the clay ruins and the traditional Falaj (irrigation system, part of UNESCO World Heritage), I could feel the tribes who once lived here. With our 4WD jeep we drove up an incredibly steep road to the radio tower and enjoyed an amazing view of the village and the scenic mountains.
