The Scottish Game of Thrones: War of Independence
The Scottish Game of Thrones: War of Independence
The Scottish Game of Thrones is a larger series that depict the succession of the Scottish monarchy with each monarch telling their own story in how they contributed to the course of Scottish history through the games they played.
This selection of 4 images tells the story of the Scottish War of Independence, starting with the death of Alexander III, which left the country in turmoil as there was no direct heir to the throne. After his granddaughter, Margaret, The Maid of Norway, died en route to Scotland, John Balliol was appointed and used as a puppet king by Edward of England, until he was exiled and Edward took direct control. With two claimants to the Scottish throne remaining, the country in turmoil and no resolution in sight, Robert Bruce killed fellow claimant John Comyn and claimed the Throne.
My aim is to inspire my audience to learn more about the Scottish Monarchy as this only brushes the surface.
