In all around the world, lot of theaters and showrooms are abandoned, condamned by the lack of financial means or the lack of interest carried by the population. Many areas have been forgotten, and their heritage, made up not only of stone but also of history and culture, is doomed to destruction.
On top of that during this period related to the Covid, it is still too early to analyze the lessons of the health crisis on the world of culture. However the theater industry is going through an unprecedented crisis: postponement of events, cancellation of festivals...
This series aims to show the other side of the stage, in a way these post-apocalyptic photos make us aware of what our society leaves on the side of the road. I'm not trying to present a picture of a place just to document it, I aspire to show something deeper. I invite the viewer to enter a different environment, a kind of parallel universe. A world in silence who reveals the fragility of life.
Author
The French artist NPier photographs places where time seems to have stopped. Inspired by his travels, the works are a discovery of abandoned architectures, exploring structures through stillness and dilapidation. NPier believes in the beauty of decay as it shines a light on life’s fragility and vulnerability.
He always looks for places that appear to be anchored in a different reality than our present day-to-day. In his pictures the light, the complex composition, and the textures of the interior represent a recollection of forgotten splendor. This approach deliberately considers the lived experience of a building - its memories, its shadows and its energy: that which is left behind. The photograph captures a perfect moment of stillness within the perpetually moving stream of time.
