Baltic Seascape, 2019
analogue c print, 100cm x 125cm
"Baltic Seascape" shows the enlargement of a burnt negative. The original photograph shows the Baltic Sea, which in some sections is polluted by bombs and ammunition remnants from the Second World War. The negative was damaged by a flame and in its enlargement creates an irritating effect, which invites to think about what is not visible from outside.
Author
Alexander Kadow was born 1985 in Winsen/Luhe. He lives and works as artist in Berlin.
After studying photography at Lette Verein Berlin from 2007-2010 he studied Fine Arts at Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg (HfbK, university of fine arts) in the class of Adam Broomberg and Oliver Chanarin and continued with the Master program. In 2017-2019 he attended the masterclass of Ute Mahler and Ingo Taubhorn at Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie Berlin.
My work deals with the border areas of photography and explores the question of what it is capable of conveying.
Inspired by the approaches of conceptual art, I transfer ideas and questions into a visual level through experimental setups in analogue and digital photo labs, and through photographic series. In this process, it plays a decisive role for me to create aesthetically appealing works, which usually reveal their origin only through their title. The tension between concept and object should raise questions and stimulate reflection.
