Piece of Crap
Piece of Crap
“Piece of Crap.” With the use of daily collected plastic sheets as shooting subjects, Inspired by Scientists Patricia L. Corcoran, Charles J. Moore, and Artist Kelly Jazvac, who proposed the term “plastiglomerate” to describe multi-composite materials made by rocks and molten plastics. With imperishable characteristics of plastic debris, the plastiglomerate represents anthropogenic impacts on the environment. The ironic part is if the pursue of immortal is a lasting desire of human beings, the studies implied we are on the way to achieve that by creating and consuming plastics. In between life and death, it is this long-lasting synthetic material that will record humans’ consumption activities into fossils; craft natural landscapes, and breed future creatures. The submitted photos aim to create imagination extensions to explore such paradox through photography.
Author
Especially fascinated by still life and documentary photography. I graduated from LaGuardia CUNY with a commercial photography associate degree in 2019, recently working in a Beijing-based studio specializing in product photography and video for e-commerce.
For me, photography is not just a life-long career to pursue, but also the best way to express. With that saying, I like to spend my most work-free days creating abstract still life photography projects with common daily subjects.
