Some edges - Warsaw’s Vistula
Some edges - Warsaw’s Vistula
The Vistula is called the queen of Polish rivers. Cracow (former capital) and Warsaw (current capital) are located above it. Battles that were decisive for the fate of the nation took place on its banks. The Battle of Warsaw fought between August 13-25, 1920 during the Polish-Soviet war, decided to maintain Poland's independence and crossed out plans for the spread of communism to Western Europe. It is a river "covered with legends", presented in painting, literary and musical works. Nevertheless, Vistula is polluted as a result of human activity, for instance, during 2012, 28 tons of zinc, 26 tons of lead, almost a ton of cadmium and approximately 200 kg of mercury went to the Baltic Sea through the river.
Great amount of Vistula’s photographs is created yearly. As a matter of fact, most of them are amateur to professional’s landscape and nature photographs. The presented cycle is one of the few attempts to show the visual attractiveness of the river in the category of abstraction.
