The Wall between us
The Wall between us
Behind the Reichstag building, on the side of the Spree where foxes and hares used to say goodnight to each other, I found a way to climb up the large stones of the Reichstag wall. Now I was so high that I could look over the wall that divided my city. I took a few photos of the Brandenburg Gate with my SLR camera. Suddenly, two young border guards on patrol turned the corner on the other side of the Wall. I could see from their faces that they didn't know what to do. I had the presence of mind to capture them on my black and white film, which I'm sure was forbidden. Nevertheless, I probably made a funny picture myself: a young punk girl who had daringly climbed up the Reichstag at a height of about four meters and cheekily photographed them. I could see the uncertainty on their surprised faces. I spontaneously blew them both a kiss. They stifled a laugh and probably decided to ignore me. One of them turned back around and smiled at me in a friendly but curious way.
