The Anatomy of Obsolescence: A Journey of Curiosity

What hides inside a computer mouse? What quiet grinding mechanisms let a pepper mill work?
This series opens up everyday objects to reveal their inner workings – sometimes ingenious in their precision, sometimes disappointing in their lack of care. Each disassembly becomes a portrait of our consumer society: were these objects made to be repaired and handled for years, or to be discarded after a short and disposable life?
The project is a celebration of curiosity itself – the urge to touch, to open, to trace the delicate circuits and hidden mechanisms that surround us. It is also a tribute to human creativity at a time when machines increasingly imitate it. If curiosity remains one of the last human instincts not under pressure from AI, then perhaps it is also one of our most vital.

Author
As a Geographer, I use photography to playfully (de)construct urban spaces, to spatially re-stage urban contexts, and to play with our perception of space and reality. I experiment with long shutter speeds and several zoom settings or camera positions in one exposure. This technique creates a moment of irritation, but also conveys a sense of calmness in the chaos, and transfers the scene into a transitional world somewhere between reality and dream. With this approach, I aime at questioning our making of the world through experience and knowledge.
I have been awarded a Honorable Mention in both the 2018 and 2019 International Photography Awards (@photoawards, @iphotoawards), four Honorable Mentions in the 2019 ipa “OneShot: Street Photography” Awards, and a Honorable Mention in the 2019 Budapest International Foto Awards (@budapestfotoawards, @ifotoawards). I have been accepted to to the photoSchweiz 19 (www.photo-schweiz.ch), which is the largest photography exhibition in Switzerland
