This close‑up of an Icelandic glacier looks beyond the landscape and into its timeline. Each pale band is a winter’s snowfall, pressed by gravity into ice and tinted by trapped air and minerals. The compressed layers read like annual rings, but on a scale of thousands of years. Framed from above with a telephoto drone lens, the image shows that the glacier is not static scenery, but history held in solid form.
