My 80s Clothes

A photo series of self portraits wearing my actual clothes from the 1980s that I still have.

What do I do with all my clothes that I still have from the 1980s? This was the question I asked myself. Throwing them away or donating them to a thrift store was out of the question as they had sentimental value and who would want to wear such garish garments anyway?

The only logical answer was to do a photo series of self portraits with me wearing these shameless garments that still occupy space in my closet. The items I'm wearing in the photos were purchased from about 1984 to 1989. I'm just happy I still fit in them.

The background photos of the beer can collection and basketball hoop I shot as a kid in the 1970s on 35mm film. The boat background I shot in 1995 on 35mm film on the Detroit River. The palm tree background I shot in Beverly Hills in 2023. The self-portrait backgrounds on the beach and holding the surfboard were shot at Miami Beach in 1989.
