Living Love portrays a Himba mother and her child inside a canvas tent in Namibia’s arid Kaokoland. Lit only by the muted midday glow that filters through the fabric, the mother’s skin and braided hair are coated with the customary blend of ochre and butterfat as she holds the toddler in a quiet embrace. The Himba continue to live largely as pastoralists, far from electricity and the internet; their daily rhythm turns on communal bonds rather than modern technology. The steady focus in the mother’s eyes and the child’s relaxed expression reveal a universal affection that beats independently of civilization’s advance, bringing palpable warmth to the enclosed interior.
