The River Of Lights
The River Of Lights
On the night of Diwali, Varanasi dissolves into flame.
The Ganges, ancient and eternal, carries hundreds of thousands of lights and flames. Along its banks, hundreds of thousands of people gather in dense devotion, turning the city into a living field of fire, smoke, and belief.
All photographs in this series were taken from a small boat moving along the river. From this floating and unstable vantage point, the camera drifts between water and shore, between the crowd and the ritual. Fire rises from the ghats and from drifting boats, blurring the boundary between ritual and chaos. Priests emerge as silhouettes within smoke and light, while individual figures appear briefly before dissolving back into the collective rhythm of faith.
The series moves between overwhelming scale and intimate moments. Fire becomes a language, water a witness. Together they reveal faith performed in public, eternity unfolding in a single night, and humanity suspended between darkness and light.
