Spaces of Waiting / States of Pause
Spaces of Waiting / States of Pause
The project investigates public space in the contemporary city, focusing on waiting not as empty or unproductive time, but as a living condition, in which stasis forces us to inhabit the city where we would otherwise pass through it inattentively. These pauses take shape - and acquire life - in interstitial and marginal areas of public space, otherwise overwritten by hierarchies of attention and landmarks that today recur, more or less uniformly, across our cities. They are apparently minor and insignificant moments, pauses in which time slows down and urban experience re-establishes a relationship with space and its typological and morphological characteristics. In a historical moment in which the city is experienced through repetitive images concentrated in a few locations, this reflection redirects attention to the heterogeneous complexity and stratification of public and urban space.
