In Becoming Women

I'm in a period of life that is seemingly unclear where my girlhood has ended and my womanhood begun. Trying to understand what it means to become a woman when, for so long, I’ve only ever known how to be a girl. Womanhood, a beckoning, elusive force, girlhood something naive, comfortable. "In Becoming Women" was born as a series that softly approaches this personal wrestling match with identity. Inviting my friends into this process as subjects, asking them to meet me in all their own transitions, it grew clear that this is act of becoming is shared. Doing this together we were able to explore the liminality of this phase, the lightness and heaviness, the grief and celebration. And I was able to see myself, my own struggles, reflected in them, our girlhoods intact, our womanhoods emerging. This is our collective reclamation, born through tenderness, grace, and the quiet understanding that we are still carrying the girls we once were, in becoming the women we’re meant to be.
