The henna ceremony expresses the sorrow of the Turkish bride who is leaving her parental home. Only female friends and relatives are present at the event; men are not allowed. Its a bittersweet farewell to childhood and the entrance into marriage. It is a tradition for the bride's mother-in-law to paint henna on the palms of the couple. She passes on her marital happiness to the couple, hoping that their marriage will be characterized by happiness and strength.
