Ghost Limbs
Ghost Limbs
Amputees describe sensing missing limbs long after they are gone. A foot itch or the impulse to move an arm that isn't there.
After 20 years of living away from my native California, I find my sense of that place and attachment to it growing stronger. Rather than fading, the longing and homesickness for rough coastlines and bream ocean smell feels like a missing part of my body. During visits and through the eyes of my young daughter, I see California as the place that shaped me. I also see how the affects of climate change mean it may never again be the same place I cherished.
Ghost limbs is a love letter to a place, a memory, and a way to imbue all the treasures of the ocean with meaning.
