The Idolatry of Excess - Plastic Verses
The Idolatry of Excess - Plastic Verses
Plastic Verses confronts the modern idolatry of the Anthropocene. Amidst the rubble of urban life, I reconstruct Biblical stories from the detritus of mass production - broken toys and shimmering scraps. These are not the angels of the Testament, but the specters of our excess, rising from the plastic that suffocates the planet. Like the Golden Calf, we worship the glimmer of commerce, but the cost is a plague of non-degradable decay.
The installations uncover a spectral beauty in the overlooked, transforming the debris of mass production into religious relics. The work explores the "post-natural sublime" where the biblical command to steward the earth has been replaced by a drive to consume it. This project questions the morality of our material footprint. As we drown the world in a deluge of plastic, these fae-like idols stand defiant in the landfills, our modern Gehenna. They force us to confront a terrifying question: have we traded our souls for the shimmering permanence of trash?
