MARTIN SEITLINGER
"North/South/East/West" - 2 years, 4 Photographs - 8800km on bicycle

My work blends analog photography, monumental panoramic formats and the authenticity of my cycling journeys, creating unique artistic value.
In a world dominated by speed, I aim to offer moments of calm by cycling over months to my photo destinations and shoot with my Linhof camera.
Over 2 years, I traveled unsupported by bicycle from Salzburg/Austria/Europe in all 4 cardinal directions, carrying always around 55 kg bicycle & equipment, capturing one photograph at each location.
The series includes 4 b/w images from East Iceland (travel time 3,5-month, 3395 km), the Abruzzo in Italy (travel time 1,5-month, 1784 km) the Sudeten Mountains in the Czech Republic (travel time 1 month, 1092 km) and the Central Massif in France (travel time 2-month, 2536 km)
Each photograph is the result of sustainable travelling, analog processing, and
darkroom printing at a size of 3x1 meters in edition 1. The negative is handed over in a non-reusable form, finally it’s the same uniqueness as a painting
