Elective Affinities
Elective Affinities
Elective Affinities explores the invisible bonds that connect individuals beyond choice and reason.
Two female figures share an enclosed space as reflections of one another—alternately protective, oppressive, and at times indistinguishable. Their relationship unfolds through gestures rather than actions, through silence rather than narrative.
Mirrors, masks, thresholds, water, and the recurring presence of the apple function as symbolic elements of identity, temptation, transformation, and dependence. The body is not presented as an object of desire, but as a psychological territory where power, vulnerability, and recognition are constantly renegotiated.
The series is conceived as a suspended ritual: a sequence of subtle confrontations in which intimacy becomes both refuge and constraint. Light is treated as a sculptural element, shaping a theatrical and painterly atmosphere that evokes classical and metaphysical references while remaining grounded in contemporary emotional tension.
Rather than offering answers, Elective Affinities invites the viewer to question proximity, identity, and the fragile boundary between union and loss.
