Polaroid triptych, cut films and 24k gold leaf treatment.

Kintsugi means "repair with gold" in Japanese, and is an ancient artistic practice that embraces the idea that breaks and imperfections should not be hidden but rather highlighted and enhanced, transforming damage into signs of beauty and resilience.
With these assumptions, I created, in a commissioned work, a Polaroid triptych as a tribute to the city of L'Aquila and its wounds still visible after the 2009 earthquake. I cut out the film to simulate cracks in the wall and applied 24k gold leaf.
The golden cracks thus become a metaphor for the repair of the damage caused by the earthquake and a symbol of rebirth through the value of the scars that tell its story.
