Flashpoints
Flashpoints
Flashpoints are splinters that embed themselves in my consciousness and memory, forcing me to react. Formally, the series consists of analog sandwich images created with a large-format camera and physical interference in the emulsion structure.
At first glance, Flashpoints may appear as a collection of random images. In fact, it is a set of points that trigger my response. Sometimes this response ends with taking a photograph; more often it compels me to go further — to enter the image’s structure and intervene physically.
Photography has always been medicine for me — soothing, healing, and anti-inflammatory. I want to believe that making photographs has meaning; it certainly helps me cope with inflammation and the pollutants that cause it.
As I worked on this series, images gathered beneath my eyelids, revealing key areas: the past and its influence on identity, fear and anxiety, longing, detachment from nature, aggression, war, illness — and above all, relationships.
