A Letter Written in the Shadows
A Letter Written in the Shadows
Long ago, our bodies scattered into the earth, each in a different way. Some dissolved among red fields of flowers, others released their souls into the blue sea. Wandering a shadowy world where no one dreams, we listen to the sounds of birds brushing their feathers, ants digging into the ground, and dogs mating.
At dusk, standing atop a utility pole, we see the clustered houses and, far beyond, the sea—the place where we were born and raised. When an unusually ocean-blue dawn arrives, we take a stroll, riding on the back of a friendly cat. Sometimes, we soar—perched on the crown of a magpie—or ride the relentless wind, grooming ourselves aimlessly above the waves.
When rain falls and old memories bring us to sob, the dogs and cats howl, and someone in the village lies awake. Tell me, you who are alive, why do you weep?
You are already happy—for you can drink a cool glass of water when thirsty. You can confess your love to someone dear.
You are happy. At least, for now.
