A Rhino's Fight for Survival
A Rhino's Fight for Survival
Rhinos are in a survival battle against humans due to their horns. Their horns are made out of Keratin, the same as our nails. In some cultures, their horns are believed to treat various illnesses. Because of this, Rhinos have been hunted to near extinction, and drastic measures must be taken to protect our remaining Rhinos from certain death. One of those measures is horn trimming. A team of vets, vet assistants, and a helicopter pilot conduct a seamless choreography to trim the rhino's horn in less than 20 minutes, with the goal of causing minimum stress and no pain. Blood work is also conducted while the rhino's horns are being trimmed, and verification is done to ensure the rhino is in the database. This data is vital as it aids in the fight against poachers.
Rhinos have hope as long as we humans can keep their story alive. We are their voice in this fight.
