                Sharks with Fall Foliage
During a visit to The Aysen Region of Chile in April 24, a photography group I had joined stopped at Puerto Rio Tranquilo for the night and the next day we took a boat tour of The Marble Caves (Capillas de Mármol) located several miles south of the town, a stone's throw from the western shore of Lago General Carrera. They were carved over thousands of years by the glacial waters of the Lake. The boats circled the small islands and caves, venturing in and out as the light changed radically from moment to moment from bright sun to dark shade. The crystal clear waters disclosed the surreal patterns in the marble beneath and also reflected on the equally surreal forms of the the caves above. It was Fall and on the distant shore a line of trees was pure yellow and could be glimpsed now and again through passages in the marble islands. In this photograph I wanted to capture that color to complement the colors of water and marble in this particular cave where marble resembled shark fins.

I am an amateur photographer who rarely enters competitions, though has had several photographs selected for exhibition in the competitive Maine Photographic Show. I am a retired lawyer and law professor living in Maine. I received Honorable Mentions in the Annual Photography Awards for 2022 and 2023. While I am primarily a landscape photographer, a trip to Bhutan in 2024 has helped to refocus attention on photographs of people and foreign cultures.
