Bruder-Klaus Feldkapelle

Inside the Bruder Klaus Field Chapel by Peter Zumthor: The striking texture and dark interior were crafted through an innovative process. A tepee-shaped framework of 112 tree trunks formed the mold, encased in hand-layered concrete poured in increments, leaving tactile striations. Once complete, the wooden core was set on fire, charring the interior and leaving behind the dramatic, organic texture and color. Glass inserts in the walls allow light to penetrate, creating a star-like effect that enhances the interplay between rough, primal surfaces and sacred geometry. A masterpiece of material and spiritual transformation.
