In “Applied Optics,” Philip Leutert shows self-built scenarios that challenge the viewer’s understanding of logic and imagination. These devices and experimental setups suggest an unknown law. What purpose do they serve? What does it measure or produce? The inspiration comes from pataphysics and the science fiction genre. Since his youth, Philip Leutert has been interested, among other things, in the design of props. The equipment shown there, which often looks very complicated, supports the assertion of scientific facts. Simply through the design of devices, the result of a barely understandable technology suddenly seems credible to us.
Philip Leutert studied photography at the Ostkreuzschule Berlin and the Zurich University of the Arts.
