STORIES OF OUR BODIES
STORIES OF OUR BODIES
Why has my body never entirely belonged to me?
After experiencing a stroke—a true rupture in my existence—I became acutely aware of how deeply I had been dispossessed of my own body. I revisited the stages of my life, realizing the state of submission and confinement in which I had lived: my body had been shaped by beauty standards, harassment, abuses of power, the demands of motherhood, and the cult of youth imposed by society.
This realization transformed my photographic practice of staging my body, which I have pursued for over 20 years. I shed the costumes and feminine figures to explore my nude body anew. I then sculpted and deformed my flesh using various materials to create metaphorical and sensory images. My work seeks to reveal the identity wounds and psychological suffering caused by the domination of women’s bodies. Oscillating between pain, joyous euphoria, and amusement, this performative process allows me to explore a reappropriation of my body.
