Fruition: the Art of Naked Citrus

"Fruition: The Art of Naked Citrus" is a new collection where I present a compelling collection of thirteen striking images that seamlessly fuse the organic beauty of the human form with the bold allure of citrus fruits, creating a visual experience that’s both fresh and unexpected.

In the early years of my art education, we frequently studied both nudes and fruit. While I did not photograph them back then, these subjects were ever present with nudes in all their diverse shapes, and fruit, often citrus, for its enduring nature. These objects of study were embraced in a way that felt oddly comforting, yet it was the challenge of croquis drawing that ultimately shaped my artistic approach.

In this project, I have brought together two seemingly disparate elements of my artistic past as a personal statement. "Fruition: The Art of Naked Citrus” reimagines these subjects, capturing them with intention and precision. This collection, created in 2024, invites the viewer to explore the intersection of natural forms, offering a bold and refreshing peel on the familiar.

Gilpin is a contemporary artist working primarily with photography, recognised for his distinctive exploration of the modern nude. His practice is intuitive and experimental, using natural light, colour, and form to create work that is painterly, restrained, and deeply human. His images prioritise presence and atmosphere over spectacle.

Trained in photography and figure drawing, Gilpin’s early studies were shaped by classical methods and close mentorship, informing a sustained engagement with the human form. He values singularity over mass production, favouring limited works and maintaining distance from trends that might dilute artistic intent.

Gilpin’s work has received growing international recognition. He exhibited in Barcelona in 2021 and in Paris in 2025. Over the past 24 months, his work has received more than forty-two international awards and distinctions from leading international judging panels.
