Although I'm close to my mother, a large portion of her personality remains a mystery to me. As she is a very guarded person, I feel like I'll never fully know who she is. This series of portraits personifies those aspects of her being of which I've only captured mere glimpses over the decades. I created this series by digitally rephotographing old family photos and cropping out everything but her face. The idea being: the closer you look at someone, the more unrecognizable they become.
