Transient Waters

"Transient Waters" explores the abstract geometries of flowing forms in water, reflecting the universe's fractal patterns. This series, captured in Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, portrays the region's natural beauty and also honors the cultural heritage of its four indigenous communities - Kogi, Wiwa, Arhuaco, and Kankaumo who revere water as a sacred, life-giving force that bridges the physical and spiritual realms.

In today's climate change crisis, the series urges us to view water as more than a utility, but as an essential link to our planet. The images, created through long exposure techniques with basic light and contrast editing, capture the dynamic flowforms of water and integrate within these fluid patters different elements of life. Echoing the psychological concept of transience, "Transient Waters" reflects on the fleeting yet interconnected nature of our biosphere and the universe, encouraging a deeper appreciation of our natural world and our belonging to it.

Author
Juan Paulhiac is a Colombian / Italian photographer, entrepreneur and researcher. Ph.D in Aesthetics, Sciences and Technologies of the Arts from Paris 8 University. His photographic work explores the aesthetic aspects of his research projects, often focusing on environmental and social issues.
