Tribute to Odesa
Tribute to Odesa
In June 2022, I worked in the Odesa region, in Ukraine, on a complex and challenging assignment to capture this symbolic and strategic place for both sides in the conflict. Nearly six months after the beginning of the war, Odesa was resisting, not without being hit, but without bowing.
For this work, I turned the lens in the opposite direction of the front line and captured hope and life through scenes of everyday life. Images that sometimes seem far away from a country at war, when in fact, it is there. Another reality that shows how conflict creeps into all areas and affects each individual. Humans cling to their routines and create a new "normalcy." By photographing these moments, I decided to show what it takes to keep going even in the darkest times, the courage and resilience of a nation that chooses life at all costs and keeps hope despite the difficulties.
Author
Laetitia started photography in 2013 after studying and working as a chemical engineer for seven years. This career wasn’t fulfilling for her. She felt useless and senseless, so she decided to change her path.
Photography has been a healing process. It helped her to reconnect with herself. It became a crucial tool to express and interrogate human beings, their consideration in our society and their inner revolution to define their identity. Those are the main interests Laetitia has. She loves to tell stories around those themes, simply because she can relate to them.
She attempts to use photography in a personal and interactive approach to narration, searching for a delicate balance between a poetic and journalistic approach.
