Liberation
"Liberation" is a photograph out of my series "Humanum Est" in which I reflect on a human lifespan within different stages of developement in the short time we experience ourselves in this world. What does a person leave behind in order to be born again? Old thinking, old acting, old being. Like skin, we shed what once was us to make room for something new. Something that will then carry our name on its chest like we did for an age. Detached from space and time, we create a new self out of the old one. But birth is always painful. And this time we are both mother and infant. Lost in the moment, still lingering on our old self but with a hopeful sense of what will be again, pain and excitement create the atmosphere both in and around us. Torn apart between two worlds, the past and the future, the ‘now’ becomes a chaotic time to experience. Nonetheless, in the end, this new birth will feel like a liberation. A new beginning, with new eyes, that will have a unique view on the old world.
