Hans Mezger - Historic Street
Hans Mezger - Historic Street
My Father -Hans Mezger (1929-2020) - photographed intensively on his travels, which were of course closely linked to racing. But he didn't just concentrate on the racing technique - the people and the social context were almost more interesting. Drivers and other stars along the racetracks are rarely represented in the pictures - instead, everyday scenes are included in the style of street photography.
The selection shows scenes from Detroit, NY and Moscow that were shot in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The pictures also show life in West and East during the Cold War. At that time, the conquest of space was a question of social and political superiority - the USA and the USSR pushed each other in technological development, the powers wanted to demonstrate their capabilities and show them off.
What is striking in the captured scenes is that today's distinction between civil and military use did not exist. What was good for the conquest of space could also stand up to an earthly opponent.
