IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER
IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER
"In the name of the Father" is about power and patriarchy, masculine transmission, absence of silenced women in our societies.
“In the name of the Father” is a photographic series about this particular tradition and heritage in Ecuador: to pass down the first name from father to son, from generation to generation. Family portraits shot between 2013 and 2020 at the four corners of this South-American country. (Complete series : 52 families)
These families, all different from each other with regard to their place of origin, social condition, or life story, are linked by a thread which is invisible, fundamental, and foundational – that reveals a shared connection to the world and a common desire for eternity.
Pictures in black and white, with the aim of minimizing visual distractions and reinforcing the repetitive effect. Black and white helps reinforce the feeling that behind the many differences, we are always looking at the same picture, the same family.
