"Rapa"
"Rapa"
The "Rapa das Bestas" (wild horse shaving) is the name of a cultural and tourist festival that consists of cutting the horse's mane that is carried out in the curros (closed enclosures where the horses are collected) held in various towns in Galicia (Spain), in addition to cutting the mane, the horses are dewormed and any wounds they may have are treated. The horses are collected in the bush days prior to the Rapa and are concentrated in nearby places from where they are taken in groups to the curro, there the foals are separated from the herd to a corral so that they do not suffer any damage; then a team made up of several people hold the horse (two covering its eyes so it does not get scared) and another holding its tail (to prevent it from kicking), once immobilized it is dewormed, cured and its mane and tail are shaved. After the rapa they are returned to the bush. In 2018, a small number of horses and mares (twelve so far) began to be fitted with locator collars equipped with GPS
