Being in between is an innermost human condition. A workplace can become a playground. Hope of hard labor can still live between a draught and an empty sky. Areas where real production runs might experience the result by far from final product. Being alien to their own production also exist in between urbanism and marginal rural civilization. One is lucky enough to find a moment of joy among underdeveloped surroundings of a marginalized community.Sevanagala sugar factory in Eastern of Sri Lanka was established in 1980s, while State reformations were happening by introducing an open economy model, instead of a welfare state. With the open economy, state owned enterprises were becoming incompetent and almost abandoned by the mainstream merchant sector. But still, it runs as a model in the area while supplying minimum living conditions for the factory workers.
The subculture around the factory is fascinating and few generations have grown along with the semi industrial culture
