Prayer
Prayer
PRAYER IS AN INVESTIGATION OF OTHERWORLDLY EMOTIONS
In 2018 my son was diagnosed deaf. From England I had moved back to Italy, where Louis and I spent a year in complete poverty. The days passed slowly, in silence. I began to look at myself and the world with different eyes.
I felt, thus, the need and urgency to find a new language of communication.
A call, at first incomprehensible, then slowly, slowly, out of the fog revealed itself to me as what I call prayer.
I did not know how to pray; I had never done it. I set out in search of a mentor, but to no avail. I began to write, but that did not compensate for my feeling, my search.
Light, silence, suspension, connection were the waves of recall.
I began to wonder if humankind had lost all forms of deep listening, stillness, observation, with the world around, with sensations, with primal instinct. I too had lost it and was trying to find it again.
Images, only images could make me cry so hard that my heart exploded. Photography was the path I had to follow.
In the spring of 2022, among the Arctic ice, I realized that my prayer is the moment when I photograph. The camera is my medium of connection and prayer with the world and with which I can make everything align.
I try to bring into form the untouchable, the invisible
When I photograph, I seek and ask for that "moment of grounding with the Earth, with existence, with heaven."
I listen to the beats of my heart and I listen to the soul of what is in front of me, which has gathered in prayer: everything has a soul, everything is sacred.
Prayer is a search into the depths of existence, into bringing back a slow, meditative form of listening and prayer that the fast-paced, contemporary world has buried: listening to ourselves as part of one Universe.
