Portugal's Worse Drought In The Last 100 Years
Portugal's Worse Drought In The Last 100 Years
The series portrays a Vilarinho das Furnas village, which was flooded due to a Dam construction. The village according to locals mites dates back to the 1st century. At the end of 1960, the village had almost 300 inhabitants and over 80 houses. With the construction of the dam, inhabitants were paid in order for the Dam project to be concluded. The village was flooded but due to the consequences of climate change, the rainy season has decreased and summer temperatures have increased bringing to the water surface almost all of the village area. According to scientists, 2022 is the worse drought in the last 100 years taking place in Portugal.
