Bacillus Swarm #1
Bacillus Swarm #1
This piece of film holds record of cross-species collaborative entanglements, expressing co-authored narratives of human-non-human worldings. Bacillus, a common soil bacterium, was cultivated from Jade's garden space and allowed to colonise the film surface, rendering intrinsic self within the emulsion. In the garden space Bacillus controls fungal and foliar pathogens harmful to plant beings, whilst also converting (with the help of mycorrhizae, a fungi that live within root microbiome) soil minerals and organic matter into plant friendly nutrients. Here, Bacillus enacts its world-building operations of consumption and transmutation within a piece of Kodak film.
