The constitution of memories
The constitution of memories
This project is a journey through the constitution of memories.
Using an old kaleidoscope found among family belongings, I have photographed objects and places from my childhood.
Looking into a tiny fissure, I have searched for my family memories. Relying on the randomness of the distorting effect but perceiving great emotion at the moment of shooting, I discovered that the kaleidoscopic image could capture, retain and represent my memory much better than could the object itself.
The fluid matter of memories appeared to me as a work of distillation, I have imagined it passing through the narrow paths of the kaleidoscope, generating concentrated, dynamic and multifaceted images, transforming the object into the essence and archetype of memory.
Although in the images I speak of my world, of my childhood memories, the project intends to look at the layering of memory and represent the process of remembering as an existential blend made of matter, light and thought.
