Reverse Spaces
I have been working as an advertising still life photographer for the past 5 years. Throughout this time period, I develop strong skills in an environment where aesthetics have very specific codes concerning; sharpness, respect of perspectives, colorimetry and story-telling. Sometimes we find ourselves recreating entire scenes that are an exact representation of reality. Why not photograph the products directly when this scene exists in our lives? By reappropriating the codes of still life advertising photography i seek to create an imaginary world. This process of setting up, which could be compared to manual practices such as sculpture, allows me to find a materiality. The "scenes" are no longer a replication of reality - isolated, autonomous and structured environments - not just fragments of reality. I create the illusion that the objects represented are out of the world by treating them as sculptural forms. i aim to derealize the scene as opposed to simply replicate it.
Author
French still-life photographer, art director and filmmaker who currently lives and works in Berlin. after completing my studies at paris’ ESAG penninghen, I launched to work with the perfume house ormaie paris. this first experience with commercial photography lead me to collaborate with different magazines and brands. Next to the advertising projects I experiment with analogue photography and printing processes including cyanotype and serigraphy. Today I have found a balance between my commercial and artistic work which complements and enriches each other.
