Yuan Tang is a New York-based Chinese photographer who moves freely within fine art, documentary, commercial, and fashion photography.

Photography project - “Comfort zone” started during the pandemic area. These subjects are female Chinese artists living in New York. From illustrators, musicians, tattoo artists to multimedia artists, these women stayed feminine but tough, bound yet free. The connection with Yuan is not just through the lenses, the ropes, or the physical display. They’re also bound by spiritual communication and accumulated lived experiences.

The world has changed tremendously since 2020. Restrictions on social activities, isolation from loved ones, and the constant news cycle of ongoing Asian hate attacks. These kinds of incidents or states of affairs made it difficult for them to remain optimistic. For those Chinese artists, this change makes them have to discover a way to feel more comfortable being themselves, including Yuan.
